simply put koplyov is a proven ufc caliber fighter who is 1 win from getting ranked. Almeida is 5-0 unproven and unlikely to ever make the top 15. He may not look old or washed but that could be from the low level competition. He’s started too late in mma to make much of a splash imo

kopylov takes round 1 off to plant his feints, get reads and set up the finishing sequence , that's literally his whole stick

 that's why it looks like his fights with fremd, puna and ribeiro were """close""" early on but you're straight up lying if you're saying **** like "he was badly hurt by ribeiro" or "the fremd fight was competitive". he actually hasn't lost a single round in his last 5 fights excluding maybe a close r1 against fluffy

I never said the fight against Fremd was competitive, I said it wasn't one way traffic, which means he was also getting hit. He was hitting and hurting Fremd way more than Fremd was him, but Fremd was still landing some shots and busting up Kopylov's face a bit. His defense is where he lacks, but he's so dangerous and fast offensively that he makes up for it when fighting lesser fighters. I just don't know if he'll be able to make up for his lack of defense against a quality kickboxer like Almeida. I also don't know if he'll be able to take a round off like you're saying and still beat Almeida if this goes to the judges. Whether cardio or him "taking a round to set up feints and get reads" he's still giving a round away and that's a negative trait.

@Sirspudgreg
Alex Pereira was also an older unproven kickboxer making the transition to mma at one point in time too and we see where he is now. Not saying that this kid is anywhere near Pereira's level, but don't count him out just because of that. A 34 year old Pereira with a record of 4-1 in mma beat Bruno Silva who was on the verge of breaking into the rankings at the time. Then he turned around and KO'ed Sean Strickland 5 days before his 35th birthday. Almeida has shown he's more than just a kickboxer with his grappling on the Contender Series and his takedown defense in his debut. I don't think you guys are giving this dude enough credit.

"he's still giving a round away"

no. no, he is literally not giving any rounds away. my point was that EVEN with his style being that of taking r1 to get his reads and feints going, he is STILL winning all those rounds - official scorecards are posted on ufc.com and he hasn't lost a single round in his last 5 fights except 2/3 of the judges giving r1 to fluffy

also the whole argument about his face "being busted" is funny. different people with different skin complexions and potentially different face injuries during camp will bruise up and bleed differently when getting hit. kopylov for example is pale and has a very light skin complexion so he bruises up way more and by way softer hits than other people

It's ok guys. I agree with you. Almeida has a very good chance of beating Kopylov. But no need to convince me. Convince the bookmakers. They are the ones that matter. Please go out and vote with your wallets. Put some serious money down on Almeida. That's the best way of showing your noble support.

I promise that I won't wait for the line movement and smack a massive bet on Kopylov. I promise.

he's winning rounds against bums who can't strike with him lmao the best striker he's faced is Soriano. And he starts to fade at the end of round 2 in every one of his fights. So you have low level competition, bad striking defense, average at best grappling, and cardio concerns. There's more than enough reasons to pick against this dude. He's fun to watch but he's overrated in my opinion. He's not a top 15 caliber fighter. Fluffy just proved that

I get it you're just trying to be edgy by calling the guy casuals like overrated but you're literally making stuff up to justify it

- he was never hurt "really badly" by ribeiro
- the fremd fight WAS one way traffic
- the puna fight was also one way traffic
- his initial tdd is actually very good because he trains at sadulaev's camp in dagestan and it's just his bjj that is lacking
- he doesn't fade in r2 in all of his fights as he literally caught a body in r3 against di chirico and won r3 against duraev
- low level competition but Cesar has literally never fought someone as good as Kopylov in MMA so this sounds more like an advantage for Kopylov than anything
- we're not arguing if he's top 15 caliber fighter so there's no need for you to move the goalpost, we're arguing if he can beat Cesar or not

everything you say can very easily be debunked as bias

@baremaras
no one's trying to be edgy and I never called anyone a casual. I said Kopylov is overrated. Most people think he's a top 25 fighter, or "one fight away from becoming ranked"(which is why I mentioned ranked). I don't. It's hard for me to rate someone that highly who doesn't have any wins over anyone with a .500 or better record in the UFC.

I went and watched every fight that he's had in the past 2 years yesterday and those are my notes from the tape. It's not bias or fact, it's my opinion, and none of you have to agree with it. I do that for every fighter. I clearly said Almeida hasn't fought anyone either and has a lot to prove too, but from watching his contender series fight, debut, and kickboxing tape I favor him in this fight. And I'm gonna stick to my guns no matter how many of y'all come for me in the comments lol I guess we'll see June 1st

Still don't get why Perez/Edwards is labeled as a rematch. It's misleading and confusing, it should only be used for sanctioned prior fights, not UFC PI scuffles.
