Mike Rhodes Wiki

Mike Rhodes is an American welterweight fighter currently signed to the UFC. He is a blue belt in Brazilian Jui Jitsu under Daniel Wanderley and a black belt in Roufus Kickboxing. He trains along with the Pettis brothers at Roufusport Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mike has previously fought for NAFC and RFA where he was the welterweight champion. He holds a degree in Criminal Justice from Ellsworth Community College. Of his six professional wins, three have been finishes including two T/KOs.

Rhodes began kickboxing while he was playing college basketball as a way to lose weight. He came from a troubled home and had anger issues that led him to get into fights throughout his youth. He began his amateur MMA career in 2008, but would lose his first fight. He did not compete again until 2010. He visited Roufusorpt Academy with a friend and decided to pack up all of his belongings and move to Milwaukee to begin training at Roufusport full time. He finished his amateur career with a 6-2 record.

Mike had his first professional fight in May, 2012 under the Duke Roufus owned promotion, NAFC. He was able to beat Zak Ottow by unanimous decision. He would pick up three straight wins in five months for local promotions before being signed by RFA in early 2013. He would make his debut with the company against future UFC fighter, Brandon Thatch, but would suffer his first professional defeat when he was submitted in the first round. He would bounce back with a 56 second TKO three months later. This win earned him a shot at the vacant RFA welterweight title against Alan Jouban. After a five round battle, Rhodes would win a unanimous decision as well as the welterweight title.

In early 2014, Rhodes was picked up by the UFC. He was scheduled to take on fellow debutant, George Sullivan, at UFC on Fox 10. He would ultimately lose a unanimous decision. He got his next chance to pick up a UFC win when he faces Robert Whittaker at UFC Fight Night 43. This attempt would ultimately come up short as Rhodes would lose a unanimous decision.

With Rhodes back obviously against the wall, he was paired with highly touted Brazilian prospect Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 58. The fight would last a little over 1 minute to where Rhodes would succumb to an arm-triangle choke. His future with the UFC is uncertain now standing at 6-4.
